Counselling is a process, a way in which a person can be supported to process and learn to manage personal and/or psychological issues. This can include mental health issues, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, alcohol and/or other drugs issues, relationships issues ... the list goes on. One of the most important part of counselling is the partnership developed between a person and his/her therapist. This partnership's aim is to create a supportive environment whereby a person feels comfortable to discuss his/her thoughts, feelings and fears. One of the best ways to create this is through trust that results in a meaningful and positive therapeutic relationship. Young people often have difficulties developing trusting relationships with adults, and this is why it takes a certain set of skills for support workers to build rapport with a young person and create a meaningful and positive therapeutic relationship. The staff of Healing Hearts have the skills and experience to not only build therapeutic relations with adults, but also young people, their families and significant others and support workers.
